Dr. Omileye "Omi" Achikeobi-Lewis
AUTHOR. ARTIST. FIFTH GENERATIONA VISION KEEPER. COUNSELOR. DR. OF CHINESE MEDICINE AND ACUPUNCTURE, REIKI MASTER, INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA EXPERT
Hi I am Dr. Omileye. I am of African-Caribbean descent born in the Uk, have traveled through the world, lived in the UK, Carribean, US, and Africa. I didn't realize it but my whole life I have been following the Black Trauma Trail, in search of how to heal the Mount Everest of trauma - Black and Brown epigenetic ancestral trauma. I believe when this elixir is found, it becomes the elixir that all who suffer from intergenerational trauma can benefit from. I believe I have tapped into an ancient meridian acu-counseling based approach that helps us identify these traumas from deep within our bodies, and shift them gently but surely, allowing us to experience true mind-body-spirit liberation. I have always been fascinated by the question what is Home and how do we return back to it. Not just individually but collectively. I have spent my whole life time studying ancient trauma healing systems and researching how they connect together. I believe our Earth is better of when we re-connect to that which brought balance, compassion, and unity.
I have written several books. My recent one, Kirkus Starred Reviewed Children's yoga and mindfulness book, My Heart Flies Open published by North Atlantic Books and distributed by Penguin Random House - is one that is really close to my heart. The illustrations I did came long before the words. They portray a girl who is lost, invisible and upside down, and she finds her way home to herself. I think that little girl represents all of us. I enjoyed working with thousands of children as an Artist in Resident for Asheville City Schools showing our young ones how to create therapeutic and life changing My Heart Flies Open art. The other favorite thing I have experienced is being at the United Nations as one of sixteen sacred leaders from around the world to help form UNICEF GIWA (Global Interfaith WASH Alliance) and for a few years co-founding the former international Humanity4Water Awards. Why are these two things among my favorite? Because of my passion for Earth and Community Healing. I have set up a trauma healing acu-counseling center in Kigali, known as Black Soma Kigali, where I offer the elixir of a Black Soma acupuncture and counseling approach to healing our deepest traumas and psychological suffering.
